Is Bookmiser a chain?
Bookmiser is presently an individually owned business. We currently have two locations. Now, it's just a short hop, skip, and jump to a multi-million dollar chain of 300+ stores, at which time, we will be bought out in a cash for stock transaction, creating a wealthy existence for the owners and our employees.
How long have you been open?
Bookmiser opened on Thursday, September 16, 1998. October 1998, marked our first full month of operation. That calculates to ______ year(s) and _______month(s) ago. You didn't know you had to do math, did you (and a word problem too)?
Do you offer any special discounts?
Come on now! It's already a used book store for crying out loud. But seriously…YES, we do honor and offer discounts to one special group: TEACHERS. If you're a teacher, just show us your teacher I.D., and you'll receive a 10% DISCOUNT on your entire purchase (does not apply to trade credits or internet sales). In addition, Bookmiser will be glad to work with your school or PTSA to supply summer reading books, required class studies, and/or support potential fund raising activities.
Why didn't you take all of my books when I came in to trade?
Bookmiser trades books based on condition and need. We will reject books that are shopworn, tattered, mildewed, yellowed, or damaged in some way. In addition, our inventory may be heavy in a particular title and/or category. And sometimes, there may be a title or category that does not appeal to a heavy customer base. But please, don't take it personally…
What kinds of books do you need, and what will you give me for my books?
It is best if you don't try to prejudge the kind of books we're looking for. Better to bring them all in (except textbooks) and let us check them out. Categories usually in high demand include current best sellers, science fiction/fantasy, mysteries, classics, coffee table books, audio books, and history. We'll take what we can--the rest, "maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon…"
Please click on the Trade Policy link for specific guidelines. Generally, please remember, the actual amount rendered for your book(s) will depend upon need and condition. And most importantly, we only deal in trade, not cash. So if you're looking to fund your kid's college education on this transaction, we can't help you out.
O.K. Tell me all the rules and regulations about using my credit.
That's not a question, but what the heck. We have ONE rule/regulation and ONE rule/regulation ONLY: no more than 1/2 of your purchase may be paid for with your store credit-the rest cash, check, or charge (AMEX, MasterCard, Visa). Otherwise, it's open season. Use your credit on any merchandise you want. No per book surcharge. No trade credit end date. No genre trade limitations.
Void where prohibited by law. Must pay applicable sales tax. Must be 6 months old to participate.
How do you price your books for sale?
Finally, a question on how we earn a living. Soft cover and paperback books are 1/2 of the U.S. publisher's price. Hardback books are individually priced but are approximately 1/3 of the original U.S. publisher's price. Audio books are priced at approximately 1/2 of the original U.S. publisher's price.
How do I know when you have sales, special events, and clearance promotions?
Bookmiser has compiled a mailing list of email addresses to inform customers of sales, special events, and clearance promotions. Look for the podium (or is it a lectern?) in each store, or sign up online via the "Contact Us" page. We're also in the process of developing an online newsletter--slight chance you might find stuff like this in the newsletter also. Ya think? And we have a link for the newsletter too (we think of everything).
I'm moving and want to get rid of my books. Do you take donations?
We don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Bring it on (not a political endorsement)! Bookmiser will do one of three things with your donations: place them in regular stock, price them for our clearance table or semi-annual clearance extravaganza (maybe "event" is a better word), or donate them to a local charity. It's our choice.
Do you carry really old books?
From time to time, we will acquire some antiquarian books, typically in an estate sale. But to quote a heroic icon of our time, "It's not our bag, baby."
What can we do to help?
Bring friends, tell neighbors, share your experiences, trade your books, spend your money, read consistently, spend your money, join our emailing list family, spend your money, offer suggestions, spend your money…
